The United For Peace and Justice “End the Occupation” March

On June 10 th 2007, United for Peace and Justice http://www.unitedforpeace.org/ held a rally at the United States Capitol to bring attention the situation in Israel with the concept that it is occupied territory from the Palestinians as the Six Day War reached it’s 40 year anniversary. http://www.endtheoccupation.org/

There were other groups there to join them, like the "Neturei Karta" http://www.nkusa.org/

The buzz on the count was about 2000 people from what I got from the rally organizers.

There was also a counter demonstration called “Stand For Israel” http://standwithisraelrally.blogspot.com/

They were a group of about 200 people in a gated area, but they did wander around to their opposition and engage in some sometimes lively discussion. Although I never saw any violence and both sides told me that there were really not many racist remarks, if any, and there were “mostly” civil encounters.

That’s all until the next event.

Peace OUT!
